Build an Ordinary Meal, Step by Step
Identify a protein source, then add a staple, fruit or vegetables, and an appropriate fat source. The PRD's half vegetables and fruit, quarter protein foods, and quarter staple model is a teaching reference. Portions and combinations can adapt to your needs.
Examples: rice + tofu or fish + cooked vegetables; noodles + eggs + greens; wholemeal bread + milk or soy milk + fruit.
Choosing When Eating Out or Shopping for Convenience
- Identify available protein foods, such as eggs, soy foods, fish, or meat.
- Look for staples and vegetables or fruit. Another dish or meal can add variety when a category is absent.
- Choose portions in the context of hunger, activity, and current goals. Sauces and drinks can also be recorded.
- When busy, choose a workable combination rather than waiting for an ideal meal.
Calorie and macro inputs are optional. Reference: food teaching guidance、NHS Eatwell Guide. Functional groups organize teaching; they are not a nutrient database.
